Before diving into this week’s main topic, this near-sighted Ibaloy writer would like to appeal once more for all those living (or merely existing) to give our newly-elected and reelected national and local officials a chance to prove themselves and hopefully fulfill their campaign promises.
Although promises are meant to be broken, we hope and pray that this would no longer be the case. We should support our leaders (as long as they do good, of course) for the sake of our beautiful but troubled country and its wonderful but long-suffering people (except those belonging to political dynasties). Truly, we deserve the leaders we vote into office. Mabuhay!

Members of the Baguio City Human Rights Action Team led by Atty. Hannah Calitong of the City Legal Office joined in the Commission on Human Rights’ 35th founding anniversary celebration on May 16 with the theme, “Matatag na Komisyon, Maaasahan sa lahat ng panahon” conducted by the CHR-Cordillera under Director Romel Daguimol.
May we all be ever vigilant and not allow others to trample on our human rights as we also give due respect to the rights of others. Cheers!

FYI: Acting City Social Welfare and Development Officer Liza Daisa Bulayungan joined the meeting of the Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipino-Baguio Federation on May 5 at the Conference Hall of CSWDO Youth Home and Family Life Resource Center. She reminded the officers of the various groups of the objectives of Kalipi as well as their role in community development.

Here’s ‘Awaking in New York’ by Maya Angelou: “Curtains forcing their will/ against the wind,/ children sleep,/ exchanging dreams with/ seraphim. The city/ drags itself awake on/ subway straps;/and/ I, an alarm, awake as a/ rumor of war,/ lie stretching into dawn,/ unasked and unheeded.”

Let’s end with a prayer: “Dear God, are you there? Do you really know me? I suppose you’re responsible for my existence, so you do already know me? Your creation is amazing and it’s one reason why I think you exist. The intricate and perfect details found in nature couldn’t have happened by accident. I want to get to know you better and I pray you will lead me to you. Amen.”
May our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ continue to bless and keep us all safe.
