The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (Menro) of Bontoc, Mountain Province said much needs to be done to save the Chico River from pollution.
MENR Officer Lambert Kisofen Jr. said that despite of the efforts of the local government unit, different agencies, and the community, Chico River is still unsafe.
This is why Menro and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, continue to hold a massive water cleanup along Chico River.
Together with people’s organizations, the offices are conducting cleanup every Friday as part of the activities under the Integrated Natural Resources and Environment Management Program (Inremp).
Inremp is a seven year project that seeks to reestablish ecological stability and biodiversity conditions of degraded forest land protected areas in watersheds.
Goddi said irresponsible garbage disposal remains despite the implementation of Ordinance 824. He added chemicals from agricultural lands along the Halsema Highway also pollute the river.
