One of the tenants of a building along Session Road, and some of its clients, are asking the Montañosa Pastoral Resources Corp., which manages the building, to act on the complaints regarding the foul smell coming from a salon within the same building.
Dr. Mildred Ayson, who maintains an obstetrical-gynecological clinic for 21 years at Antipolo Building of Porta Vaga Mall, complained the salon beside her clinic, which opened in July 2021 uses products with chemicals for its services.
These products with chemicals, Ayson said, emit fumes that are “irritating and damaging” to people when exposed even for a short period, especially to the pregnant, senior citizens, and personnel of the salon themselves.
She added the location of the salon is not a well-ventilated area being a dead-end unit and fumes from products used at the salon still filter through her clinic despite the installation of an exhaust system and a fan inside the salon.
Ayson, in her letter to the Courier, said her concern is to help safeguard the health and well-being of the public, especially individuals being exposed to the fumes.
Ayson also attached a petition signed by several individuals appealing to the Porta Vaga management to act on the obnoxious smell emanating from the salon.
The salon has been inspected by the City Health Services Office with sanitary inspector IV Robert Colewan submitting a memorandum to CHSO Head Rowena Galpo on complaint of alleged non-compliance by the salon with the Sanitation Code of the Philippines.
In his memorandum dated March 7, Colewan recommended for the salon to strictly adhere to the minimum health protocols.
Colewan said all hair products used at the salon are registered with the Food and Drug Administration and the establishment has an updated business permit. Its personnel have also renewed their health certificates and working permits.
Colewan included in his memorandum the presence of an air purifier with high-efficiency particulate air filter inside the establishment. – Harley F. Palangchao
