LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Another far-flung community in Benguet was provided with production equipment for welding and metal fabrication.

The Department of Science and Technology-Cordillera through the DOST-Provincial Science and Technology Center provided welding machines, grinder, cutters, and other metal fabrication tools for the community-based livelihood project in Barangay Lusod in Kabayan.

These were turned over through the Lusod Agrarian Reform Multipurpose Cooperative at Sitio Proper Lusod.

The DOST also facilitated the five-day on-site training on metal fabrication, in coordination with an accredited trainer from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

DOST-Benguet Director Sheila Marie Singa-Claver said Lusod is one of the priority areas identified in the Poverty Reduction through Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster by the cooperating agencies in Benguet.

It is as one of the farthest barangays or geographically isolated areas in Kabayan, which is accessible by a four-wheel drive from the main Kabayan Road Junction to the rocky road via Babadak.

The DOST Benguet  earlier  provided welding package to the Tinongdan Indigenous People’s Organization  in Barangay Tinongdan in Itogon  while Tesda-Benguet provided a trainer and managed the training in the barangay. – Redjie Melvic Cawis
