The different district and employees of the Department of Transportation-Cordillera were deployed in public roads and terminals to secure the riding public and motorists during the Holy Week.

DOTr Acting Legal Office Chief Atty. Kyrstel Grace Sanchez said as part of the department’s Oplan Semana Santa done yearly, deployed personnel are expected to check on road worthiness of motor vehicles and appropriate documents required of drivers.

The personnel also monitor loading capacities in public transportation and those who are found to be overloading are not allowed to travel.

The DOTr-Land Transportation Office is also strict in its implementation of regulations against colorum vehicles.

Last year, DOTr-LTO personnel apprehended 107 colorum vehicles and as of March the office has already recorded around 30 apprehensions due to colorum violations.

Sanchez said they have been actively coordinating with concerned local government units for its assistance in colorum operations.

“We are asking for the help of LGUs in monitoring vehicles plying their respective areas in going to Baguio City, since they are the ones who can assist for LTO to be able to apprehend colorum violators,” Sanchez said.

The DOTr has also dispatched personnel around the region as it has been doing every summer season to render motorist assistance all around the region, as well as conduct roadside inspection to make sure motor vehicles and motorists comply with the minimum and other prescribed standards in using public roads.

Sanchez said as in the past years they have also deployed law enforcers together with other partner agencies to assist in the conduct of summer vacation activities of the city, including annual Baguio Lucky Summer Visitors led by the Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club which started on March 25 and culminating on March 31 starting from the selection of the lucky summer visitors in La Union and during their tour in Baguio and Benguet. – Hanna C.
