The alleged leader of a notorious drug group operating in the Cordillera and Region 1 has been confirmed dead by the Tuba Municipal Police Station.
Reports said the decomposing cadaver recovered from a 30-meter ravine at Camp 3, Tuba, Benguet last week was Christian del Prado Alvar alias Sadeek, the leader of the Sadeek drug group.
The cadaver was positively identified by his fa-mily, who also brought the remains for cremation.
The Sadeek drug group is in the watch list of the Philippine National Police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency with its members categorized as high value targets in line with the government’s war on drugs.
Members of the Sadeek drug group, including Alvar, have been involved in several firefight incidents with law enforcers over the past five years.
In August 2015, personnel of the Baguio City Police Office engaged members of the Sadeek group in a firefight during an anti-illegal drug operation at Amistad Road, Camp 7.
Two members of the drug group were arrested in that operation but Alvar evaded arrest.
Over the past years, members of the drug group were arrested by virtue of warrants of arrest issued by the courts.
On April 19, 2019, personnel of the BCPO City Mobile Force Company, who were implementing a checkpoint at Sta. Lucia Subdivision at Asin Road, flagged down a special utility vehicle, which was previously alarmed for evading police operatives serving arrest warrants.
Alvar, who was then aboard the SUV, fired two shots towards the police operatives manning the checkpoint to evade arrest. Hot pursuit operation ensued until police recovered the vehicle that was abandoned at San Carlos Heights in Baguio.
Police recalled that aside from Alvar, a female and a child were among the occupants of the vehicle.
Alvar was finally arrested by composite police and anti-narcotics operatives from the Cordillera and Region 1 who served an arrest warrant against the drug group leader on Aug. 7, 2019 at Sta. Barbara, Agoo, La Union.
The arrest warrant served was for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act and direct assault with attempted homicide.
It was not immediately known if Alvar posted bail for his temporary liberty.
It was only last week that government personnel recovered his decomposing body along Kennon Road. – BMC release
