The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), as a member of the Cabinet Cluster on Climate Change Adaptation, Mitigation, and Disaster Risk Reduction (CCAM-DRR), is set to conduct the first Disaster Response Management Bureau (DRMB) Partnership Forum on October 10, 2019 in Quezon City.
With the theme “Building Connections and Resiliency: Employing a Multi-Sectoral Approach in Enhancing Climate Change Adaptation & Mitigation and Disaster Risk Reduction Programs in the Philippines,” the DRMB Partnership Forum will promote coordination among socially responsible businesses, academic institutions, and civil society organizations. It will also serve as a venue to discuss exemplary programs, strategies, and experiences in social protection and CCAM-DRR for a multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral partnership building.
The forum is being organized by Disaster Response Management Bureau’s Risk Resiliency Program (RRP) which implements projects to enhance the adaptive capacity of economically vulnerable persons against natural and climate-induced hazards.
It will be participated in by RRP-Central and Luzon Field Office personnel, Disaster Response Management Bureau and Disaster Response Management Division heads, Local Government Unit personnel, civil society organizations, academic institutions, and representatives from the private sector.
The RRP is a convergence program of the Cabinet Cluster on CCAM-DRR aimed at making communities climate and disaster-resilient by 2022.
In the Department, RRP is implemented by DRMB through the Cash-for-Work (CFW) modality. Since 2015, the program has presented income-generating opportunities to economically vulnerable and hazard-prone persons situated within the cluster’s program coverage. In addition, it has mitigated the impacts of hazards through environmental protection and preservation activities, supported the construction or repair of small-scale community infrastructures, and provided food security interventions. With changes in temperature influencing the extremities of weather events, the Department, through DRMB’s RRP, continues to pursue innovations in the field of CCAM-DRR to better equip the susceptible segments of society against natural and climate-induced hazards.
