The Department of Trade and Industry Cordillera, in partnership with the Saint Louis University Fabrication Laboratory (FabLab), is into the production of face shields for distribution to its micro, small and medium enterprises clients and other qualified beneficiaries.
DTI Regional Director Myrna Pablo said 700 face shields were initially produced through the SLU FabLab to be distributed to the beneficiaries of “Pangkabuhayan para sa pagbangon at ginhawa” and their clients under the Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay program.
The face shield project is just the start of the DTI-SLU FabLab partnership. The fablab is a shared service facility assisted by DTI with a funding of P14 million for product prototyping services for startups, students, faculty, and community.
Inaugurated in 2019, it is equipped with laser cutter, XXL 3D printer, milling machine, labeler, thermoforming and PCB etching, robotics lab, virtual reality simulation lab, and motion capture.
The FabLab is part of SLU’s TechHub housed at the School of Engineering and Architecture with Dean Cynthia Posadas as project leader and Engr. Maria Corazon Ocampo as TechHub manager.
For other Covid-related programs, DTI-CAR and its partner retailers continue with the conduct of rolling stores. As of Aug. 7, they have already initiated 191 runs in 986 barangays benefitting over 500,000 consumers and generating P131.09M in sales.
Price monitoring on the compliance of establishments to the DTI suggested retail price is also a continuing program of DTI-CAR. – Carlito C. Dar
