The celebration of the Environment Month kicked-off in Kalinga with a bike run and a tree planting.

Participants in the bike run came from the Mapetak Bikers, Taraki Bikers of United Kalinga, Full Spectrum Riders of the Philippines, Philippine National Police and Bureau of Fire Protection went around Bulanao, Tabuk City.

The tree planting was held at the Callagdao Reforestation site.

Two senior citizens, a 74 and 63 year-old, were among the participants in the bike run that was spearheaded by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office under Forester Noel Barrientos, Tabuk City Cenro under Forester Imelda Casiwan, and Pinukpuk Cenro under Forester Francisco Balutoc.

Students from the Kalinga State University and other environment advocates also participated in the kick-off activities.

The forest tree species planted were tuwai (tuwel) and ilang-ilang.

Other upcoming activities are the Philippine Eagle Week on June 4 to 10 with the theme “Save Philippine Eagle” and World Environment Day celebration on June 5 with the theme, “No to waste: Advancing circular economy to beat plastic pollution.” – PIA Kalinga
