The Department of Education debunked a social media post offering “pang baon” (allowance) to learners in exchange for their information.

In an advisory, the DepEd said the post promising to grant allowance to grades 1 to 6 learners in exchange for details on their school identification (ID) is fake.

“Parents and guardians are strongly advised not to give out their children’s school information and identification to these kinds of hideous posts so as not to compromise their security,” it said.

The post included the DepEd’s official logo with Vice President and Education Sec. Sara Duterte’s picture on the side, requiring guardians to submit their children’s IDs before March 30.

In return, the fake post claimed to distribute allowances worth P1,000 for grade 1; P2,000; for grade 2; P2,500 for grade 3; and P3,000; P4,000; and P5,000 for grades 4 to 6 learners, respectively.

The agency urged parents and guardians to rely on the DepEd’s official social media platforms for accurate information.

“DepEd reminds everyone to stay vigilant against misinformation,” it added.
