BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Special Area for Agriculture and Development Program of the Department of Agriculture Cordillera in partnership with the Mountain Province Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (MP-PTF-ELCAC) distributed 2,000 heads of layer chickens and 37 heads of carabaos to farmers from insurgency-affected barangays.
MP-PTF-ELCAC chair and Gov. Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr. said the livelihood intervention from the DA is a result of the series of ELCAC consultations last year with concerned barangays to identify the needed interference from the government.
On behalf of the recipients, the governor thanked the DA for its continuous intervention to uplift the lives of local farmers amidst the current pandemic. He said the intervention will surely help the local farmers and boost the egg production in the province.
Lacwasan said the animal dispersal program of the DA will augment the chick and livestock animal dispersal program of the provincial government, which continues to benefit local farmers.
Considering the limited movement of people brought about by the current pandemic, Lacwasan ordered the transport of the layer chickens to farmer-recipients from the ELCAC-identified barangays on Aug. 20.
Thirty-seven farmers from barangays Guina-ang and Dalican in Bontoc also received carabaos at the Provincial Veterinary Office Compound on Aug. 21.
Vice Gov. Francis O. Tauli urged the recipients to do their part in taking good care of the animal since the government continues to extend interventions to help local farmers.
“Agyaman kami ta dinmanun ti livelihood program ti gobyerno nga pagsayaatan mi. Agyaman kami iti amin nga concerned offices nga isu ti gapu na nu apay nga adda dagituy,” recipient Hilary Manera of Guina-ang said.
“Salasalamat iti blessings nga inmay iti ili mi. Daytuy ti mangipaneknek nga araramiden ti gubyerno ti kabaelan da ta matulungan kami nga adda iti sulinek,” Eric Banganan, a farmer-partner from Dalican, said. – Erwin S. Batnag
