Five candidates are vying for presidency of Benguet State University, one of the country’s premier state-run higher learning institutions.
The applicants who submitted their intentions are Felipe Comila, Maria Luz Fang-asan, Jimmy Fong, Joel Lubrica, and Serafin Ngohayon.
The three candidates from BSU are Comila, Fang-asan, and Lubrica.
Comila is the current director for the Institute of Public Administration and formerly the director for Land Reservation while Fang-asan is formerly the chairman of Department of Developmental Communication and BSU Culture for the Arts and current director for Planning and Development.
Lubrica is the former chair of the Math-Physics-Statistics Department, former dean of CAS, former assistant to the president, and now director of Office of Student Services.
Fong, meanwhile, is the dean of the College of Arts and Communication at the University of the Philippines Baguio and is also the commissioner representing the Northern Cultural Communities, Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino.
Ngohayon is the former president of Ifugao State University, Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges, Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines, chair of the Philippine Science Consortium, and director of the Highland Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium; and chairman of the International Distance Education Accreditation League (Phil.).
Office of the University and Board Secretary Grace Bengwayan said the public presentation of the applicants will be on Aug. 24 at 8:30 a.m. at the university gymnasium.
The search committee is led by Atty. Cinderella Filipina Benitez-Jaro, executive director V of the Commission on Higher Education central office with Jimmy Catanes, Education Supervisor II, CHED-CAR; Bulacan State University President Cecilia Gascon, Atty.
