TADIAN, Mountain Province – At least 2,660 households or 18,357 individuals will benefit from the newly improved Besao-Nacawang and Tadian-Mabalite farm-to-market road (FMR) in this municipality.

Department of Agriculture-Cordillera Director Cameron P. Odsey and Gov. Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr. with other officials led the inauguration and turnover of the P91,857,453.99  worth newly improved FMR at Sitio Toyakpa in Barangay Batayan on Feb. 8.

The 4.154-kilometer project was completed through the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) of the DA and implemented by the provincial government.

This will ease and hasten the transport of agricultural products and commodities in the 14 barangays of Besao, Zone 2 barangays of Tadian, and some barangays of Ilocos Sur. It will also provide more convenient and faster travel of motorists and commuters.

Odsey credited the success of the project to the collaborative efforts of the various officials who pushed for its realization.

He said this project started through the collaboration of the DA with the provincial and municipal officials and the Office of the Congressman.

This was realized in the early 2000’s through the Cordillera Highland Agricultural Resource Management Project 1.

The road improvement project started in 2017 and was completed in December last year.

He hopes the local government will help in the maintenance of the project.

Lacwasan thanked the DA for supporting the project which immensely helps in the development of the beneficiary areas.

Tadian Mayor Constito S. Masweng and punong barangays expressed their gratitude for the project.

He said the Nacawang Road is one of the oldest roads in Tadian and serves an alternative route to or from Besao if there are road closures in the Sabangan and Bontoc. – Clienteast Van B. Totanes
