Dancers displayed their prowess in the successful staging of the 1st breaking and openstyle competition of the 2022 Cordillera Dance Festival on April 24.

The inaugural event held at the Benguet Sports Complex gymnasium has gathered dancers from the Cordillera, National Capital Region, and regions 1, 2, and 4-A.

In the two versus two breaking girl (Bgirl) adult, the duo of Deirdre Kyanmir Palaruan and Michelle Dysangco of Baguio City won a gold medal while Palaruan dominated the one vs one closed Bgirl adult, followed by Dysangco in se-cond place. 

Another Baguio boy, Karl Alexandre Bugaoan, won gold in the one vs one closed Bboy adult followed by Kennedy Pabrua of Abra.

Sweeping the top three spots in the Latin category were the Benguet Dancesports Team led by Mark Gonzalo Benter and Jhosan Galvez on first place followed by Mico Dumalos and Mary Luz It-itan and the duo of Ashley Abance and Eiji Justine Balao.

Dancesports Cordillera, Inc. head and event organizer Charibelle Pingawan said the competition aimed to provide a platform to breaking athletes and the dance community for them to develop and enhance their skills, abilities, capabilities, and character as athletes.

“It was challenging since it is the first and we need to do a lot of changes but these changes were made to improve the character and discipline of athletes and the quality of breakdancing events in our locality and the country as well,” she said.

Visiting dancers topped the other categories with Yer Lloyd Llym of Parañaque City winning gold in the one vs one open Bboy adult followed by Michael Joseph Baldomero of Pampanga and Mark Julius Sopena of Cavite.

Alyana Talam bagged the gold in the one vs one open Bgirl adult, while Baguio girls’ Deirdre Palaruan and Michelle Dysangco placed second and third place in that order. 

Yer Llym of Parañaque paired with Karl Alexandre Bugaoan of Baguio, as they topped the two vs two Bboy adult followed by Dennis Lumanas and Kent Revamuntan of Region 3 and Ronald Nico Ruadap and Tristan Aries Bandoma of Parañaque.

The one vs one Bboy under 18 saw Tyrone Jeager Joquin of Ilocos Norte dominating the category, followed by his provincemate Lawrence Raphael Garaza.    

Louries Bernardino of Metro Manila ruled the openstyle followed by Luigi Flares of Cavite and Christy Kim Velez of Parañaque.
