Hundreds of runners have signed up for the third edition of the Itogonia Trail Run set on June 5 at Camp John Hay that extends to the scenic yet challenging trails in Itogon, Benguet.

The registration for the 32-kilometer (K), 16K, 8K, and 3K has officially closed, as organizers are now in the final stretch of preparation for one of the biggest trail run events in the localities since movements were restricted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The organizers announced slight changes in schedule with the 32K kicking off at 5:30 a.m. up to 4 p.m. while the 16K will start at 6:30 a.m. and ends at 12:30 p.m.

The 8K event will be from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. while the 3K will be from 8 to 10 a.m.

Participants must heed the call for them to bring with them the mandatory gears or items such as race bib, whistle, hydration system, drinking water, and extra trail food especially those joining the 32K and 16K events; fully-charged mobile phone; and rain jacket or windbreaker.

Participants for the 32K must be 18 years old and above and have finished at least a 21K road or trail run workout by presenting any fitness-tracking application. The category is an Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc World Series qualifier.

Those joining the 16K must also be 18 years old and above and must have completed at least a 10K road or trail run recorded in any fitness-tracking app while the 8K and 3K are open for runners 12 years old and below, who must be accompanied by a parent or a guardian.

The registration fee is inclusive of event singlet, timing chip, drawstring bag, course markings, well-stocked aid stations, post-race snacks, and raffle tickets. Participants for the 32K will be given a finisher’s shirt.

Participants in all categories who complete the race within the course cut-off time will receive a finisher’s medal.

The top three male and female finishers in each category will each receive a trophy. There will be top three finishers per age group in the 32K aside from the top three overall winner.

The age groups are 18 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, and 50 and above.  – Harley F. Palangchao
