Police investigation is ongoing on the death of an officer of the Bureau of Internal Revenue in Lagawe, Ifugao.
Lagawe Municipal Police Station Chief Maj. Ryan Tayaban reported to the Police Regional Office-Cordillera that investigators are in the process of collecting pieces of evidence to determine the cause of death of Revenue District Officer Atty. Arlan Davis.
The police have requested the reports from the Municipal Health Office and the Provincial Forensic Unit who processed the scene.
Based on initial investigation, the body of the 45-year-old Davis was found at 1:30 p.m. of Jan. 13 by his colleagues in his office. The victim reportedly sustained a gunshot wound.
Davis was pronounced dead by responding personnel of the MHO.
“We cannot jump into foul play yet, as we need further information,” Tayaban said.
He said their investigators have already talked to the colleagues of Davis for further information.
Davis, also a certified public accountant, was reported to be a resident of La Trinidad, Benguet.
Meanwhile, PRO-Cor reported the total crime incidents in the region decreased in 2021.
Records from the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division showed there are a total of 3,026 crime incidents recorded in the region in 2021, which is 14.30 percent lower compared to the 3,531 recorded in 2020.   
Baguio City recorded the highest decrease by 31.27 percent from 1,695 crime incidents in 2020 to 1,165 crime incidents in 2021.
This was followed by Kalinga from 445 to 350 or a decrease of 21.35 percent.
Abra has recorded a 10.28 percent decrease from 467 in 2020 to 419 in 2021 while Ifugao has a 9.57 percent decrease from 230 in 2020 to 208 in 2021.
Benguet, Apayao, and Mountain Province have recorded an increase in crime incidents.
Benguet recorded 652 crime incidents in 2021 from 486 in 2020; Apayao had 98 from 84; and Mountain Province had 134 from 124. – Ofelia C. Empian
