LAMUT, Ifugao – The disaster preparedness and response of Mayoyao got a boost from the Department of Science and Technology with the provision of communication equipment and training on Early Warning System (EWS) and radio communications.
The DOST-Cordillera through Provincial Science and Technology Office-Ifugao (PSTO-Ifugao) Director Genna B. Jallorina turned over 15 units of handheld radio and one base radio worth P184,250 to the local government unit for distribution to the barangays.
The provision of the radio communication equipment is one of the S & T interventions of the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) project for Mayoyao that aims to strengthen the EWS to mitigate disaster and hazard occurrences in its barangays that have no communication signals.
The PSTO-Ifugao also conducted disaster risk reduction management training to participants from 13 barangays, the local government unit, and the Municipal DRRM Office.
Resource speakers from the DOST and the National Telecommunications Commission discussed disaster prevention and mitigation, geological hazards, EWS and hydro meteorological hazards and radio laws and regulations, traffic handling procedures, and operation of land mobile equipment.
Participants were given a hands-on experience on the operation and maintenance of radio communication equipment.
An actual testing of the municipal radio communications network was conducted. – Marcelo Lihgawon
