The Department of the Interior and Local Government has assured that infrastructure projects in insurgency-affected areas will push through despite the Covid-19 pandemic as part of the development initiatives to address insurgency in the region.
DILG Regional Director Marlo Iringan said P20.7 million was allotted for the implementation of programs intended to counter insurgency, under the Local Government Support Fund Assistance to Municipalities and Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig Para sa Lahat.
Implementation of these projects is in line with Executive Order 70, which created a national peace framework and institutionalized the whole-of-nation approach to achieve inclusive and sustainable peace in the country.
Of the P20.7M worth of infra projects in affected areas, P4M was allotted for two potable water system being implemented at barangays Western and Lower Uma, Lubuagan, Kalinga and P9.9M for the completion of an evacuation center in Barangay Guina-ang, Pasil, Kalinga.
In Mountain Province, P1.4M was allotted for the construction of the Forek footbridge in Barangay Mainit, Bontoc and P5.4M for the improvement of the local access road in the same barangay.
Iringan said the government aims to alleviate poverty, develop agribusinesses, generate employment, promote peace and order, and improve the quality of life through the provision of rural infrastructure especially in insurgency-affected barangays. – DILG release
