LAMUT, Ifugao – A piece of land is very much valued and may even be a cause of misunderstandings among siblings. But for this barangay kagawad, he donated his 400-square meter lot for a school so that young children will no longer walk at least four kilometers to attend classes in the nearest school.

Mario Molina, Jr., a barangay kagawad of Bimpal, offered his 400-square meter lot in Sitio Halimutoc in Barangay Nayon to the Department of Education-Ifugao for the construction of the extension school of the Nayon Elementary School for the learners in the community.

Most learners in Sitio Halimutoc need to walk or travel about four to five kilometers from their homes going to Nayon ES and vice versa. At present, a makeshift classroom is serving 11 learners from kindergarten to grade 2 in the area.

DepEd-Cordillera Director Estela Cariño and DepEd Ifugao Schools Superintendent Soraya Faculo, together with Lamut Mayor Victomar Bunnol and Vice Mayor Everda Dulinayan, lauded Molina for his generous act for the future of the children of Halimutoc.

Cariño tasked the SDO-Ifugao to initiate the complete staff work for the processing of the deed of donation.

She also reminded the education leaders to conduct a feasibility study on the population status in Sitio Halimutoc and the statistics of future learners in the barangay.
