LAGAWE, Ifugao – The municipal police office here and its advisory council partnered to implement two programs that promote women empowerment and free flow of information in the community.
The Lagawe MPS recently launched the Adopt a Girl Scout of the Philippines (GSP) Cadet project, with eight cadet girl scouts of Ayangan National Agricultural and Vocational High School (ANAVHS) at Barangay Ponghal, as beneficiaries.
The program was initiated by troop leader Ayeza Cabbigat as municipal advisory council member representing the academe.
The police will assist the GSP cadet to perform badge work through police functions such as sitting as officer-in-charge, chief investigations officer, and chief women and children protection desk and chief operations officer of the day under the GSP’s Challenge of Heritage and Citizenship.
“Lagawe MPS supports the Girl Scouts of the Philippines-Ifugao Council through collaborative efforts and partnership with school troop leaders. This is one way to empower women to become pro-active citizens in their community,” said chief of police, Lt. Jackson Nginhena.
He said the GSP cadets will serve as force multipliers in spreading peace and order, environmental advocacies and programs, and other related activities, as well as serve as role models of the youth especially women.
Councilor Marlon Bandao, a GSP honorary member, said the program is a rare opportunity to train young women to become good citizens.
“May these chosen cadets become models in inspiring the youth to be good and obedient citizens,” said Bandao.
Meanwhile, Nginhena and the school paper organization of ANAVHS dubbed “Chilag” (light) represented by Cabbigat as the adviser, signed a memorandum of agreement for the provision of a police corner in the school paper.
The corner will provide newsworthy and related information about the programs of the PNP and activities conducted by the Lagawe MPS that involve students or teachers of ANAVHS for community awareness and empowerment particularly the Ayangan residents.
The parties will establish proper coordination, consultation and collaboration to come up with accurate, true and newsworthy information following the rules and guidelines of campus journalism.
“ANAVHS welcomes and appreciates this collaborative idea and initiative of the Lagawe MPS and Chilag to inform the public especially the Ayangan community of Lagawe regarding police community affairs and activities conducted in the far flung areas of Lagawe,” Cabbigat said.
Other signatories in the MOA are Ponghal Punong Barangay Victor L. Pun-adwan, Councilor Bandao, committee on peace and order chair, Principal Arsenio P. Guinyang, and the information center manager of the Philippine Information Agency-Ifugao. – Marcelo B. Lihgawon
