Burnham Park, Camp John Hay, Wright Park and a private open air amusement center will soon become Sunday leisure hubs for senior citizens and children in Baguio City.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the city government is working on the opening of certain spots in these areas to serve as entertainment areas for the young and old residents under strict health and safety protocols against the Covid-19.

“I think it is time to allow children together with the senior citizens to also go out on Sundays and these places are ideal in providing recreation while ensuring protection against the Covid-19 through strict health and safety rules,” the mayor said during the management committee meeting June 23.

He expressed hopes that the Bases Conversion Development Authority-John Hay Management Corporation officials can immediately approve the city’s request to open the areas like the Ayala ground, back of Le Monet Hotel, yellow trail, eco trail and the Scout Hill children’s park and fast-track the safety rules.

The city is also in talks with SM Skyranch to begin opening their facilities on a limited capacity and subject to strict safety measures.

Safety measures are also being drawn for the amusement spots at Burnham Park and horseback riding at Wright Park for the same purpose.

“We have to ensure that the measures are carefully laid down to really safeguard our elderly and children considering that Sunday is the only day they are allowed to go out in view of the quarantine. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
