TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Food assistance has reached the doorsteps of families in the provinces who are affected by the enhanced community quarantine due to the coronavirus disease-2019 (Covid-19), which is now on its second week.
Local government units used their Quick Response Funds (QRF) and other resources allowed by law in distributing family food packs to the households to help tide over families who are suddenly without work, or cannot make a living because of the ECQ.
The provincial government also augmented the assistance provided by local government units with the delivery of food packs per municipality. The Kalinga District Engineering office and the National Irrigation Administration helped deliver repacked food packs to the municipalities.
Employees of the Capitol, personnel of some agencies, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, and other volunteers helped in the repacking.
The food packs contained rice, can goods, noodles and soap.
The provincial government has allocated P5 million from the P10M QRF for food aid and another P5M for medical and health logistics, Gov. Ferdinand B. Tubban said.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development regional office also provided food packs which were delivered to the province with the help of the AFP.
Meanwhile, Department of Trade and Industry Provincial Officer Lino Cungihan reported that the agency is strictly monitoring f prices and supply of basic commodities. He also warned traders not to take advantage of the crisis. – Peter A. Balocnit
