The construction of overpasses in the main thoroughfares of La Trinidad, Benguet is being pushed anew as one of the solutions to the town’s worsening traffic situation.
In the recent municipal traffic summit, La Trinidad Municipal Police Station Chief Lt/Col. Rodelio Olsim said they have proposed the construction of overpasses as a long-term solution to the traffic congestion.
The proposed overpasses could be constructed at the intersection at Kilometer 5, at Km. 6 below the Capitol, and at Km. 4 where the big businesses are located.
He said these areas are the common bottleneck areas in the municipality.
“There are big pedestrian and vehicular traffic in these areas so it is best to put up the overpasses there,” Olsim said.
Other traffic-prone areas are the entrance of Strawberry Farm, entrance of the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post in front of Philippine National Bank, the St. Joseph Church at Km. 5, the Stobosa site at Km. 3, and from the Puguis Elementary School to the Puguis-Buyagan rotund.
Olsim said they have also proposed for the painting of loading and unloading areas and putting up of signages along the road, and to identify the proper pedestrian lanes along the main road.
Olsim also urged the public, especially those going towards the Halsema Highway, to use alternate routes such as the Long-long Road towards Buyagan or the Beckel-Shilan Road instead of the main road of La Trinidad.
He said motorists can also check the LTMPS official Facebook account for updates on rerouting and road situations in the municipality. – Ofelia C. Empian
