Watwat is life.
This year’s edition of the “Mangan Taku” food festival will feature the watwat – chunks of boiled pork distributed or shared as main meal in any Cordilleran feast.
Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong issued Executive Order 46, s. 2022 declaring April 27 to 30 as the Mangan Taku 2022 celebration – watwat edition.
The food festival, which features Cordilleran delicacies, was institutionalized in 2019 per Ordinance 81 declaring every second of April as part of the summer vacation activities in Baguio. Lead implementing agency is the Department of Tourism Cordillera in partnership with the city government of Baguio.
The activity is pursuant to Proclamation 469 in 2018 declaring April as Filipino Food Month, which aims to promote the appreciation, preservation and promotion of Philippine culinary traditions and treasures, ensuring transfer of knowledge to future generations and to support the various industries, farmers, and agricultural communities. – Jessa Mardy Samidan
