Parbusters from Mankayan, Benguet defended their turf by dominating the Benguet Adivay Fun Golf Tournament at the Lepanto Golf Course on weekend.
The premier men’s A was topped by homegrown talents led by Farky Makannoy who fired a seven-over par 61 for a net of 58 followed by Darwin dela Cruz with a net of 59 while Alban Ayugat completed the top three with 60.
The men’s B championship trophy during the two-day tournament went to Rene Pasiwen who had a gross of 76 for a net of 60 followed by Ron Cadiogan with a net of 61.
Playing caddy Zaldy Castillong had a gross of 77 for a net of 61 to complete the top three winners.
Ting Mendoza had a net of 62 for the men’s C trophy followed by Marlon Lamsis and Eddie Llamas.
Normie dela Cruz carded the best score for the ladies with a gross of 82 for a net of 62 for the championship trophy followed by Lorna Makannoy, Jane Asiong, and Vangie Sabado.
The Lepanto Golf Club officers and members organized the activity with the support of the executive committee of the Adivay Golf Cup to raise funds for the improvement of the lone golf course outside of Baguio.
The 18-hole fairway in northern Benguet has been serving as a training ground for junior golfers, who have been competing in regional and national tournaments throughout the decade.
Mankayan Mayor Frenzel Ayong thanked the organizers and the participants for making the event successful, saying it also promotes the tourism sector of the mineral and vegetable-rich municipality.
An amount of P65,000 raised during the event was given to the Lepanto Golf Club for the improvement of its fairway. – Harley F. Palangchao
