Undefeated Ifugao boxer Carl Jammes Martin will face another opponent in his 16th professional bout against a veteran boxer in Mandaluyong City March 21.
The 20-year-old Martin will face 31-year-old Ardin Diale of Sarangani, who is a veteran in the Asia-Pacific region being a former regional champion.
Martin was supposed to defend his Philippine Boxing Federation bantamweight belt against Renoel Pael but the latter has backed out from the championship bout due to hypertension.
Despite short notice, Diale has accepted the offer to challenge Martin for the PBF belt, which will be the main event of the “Fists of the Future” promoted by the Ifugao Amateur and Professional Boxing Promotion and Shock Punch.
The March 21 bout could be the toughest challenge yet for Martin, as Diale is a former Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation and World Boxing Council International flyweight champion.
Diale, with a professional record of 35 wins, 16 losses, and four draws, has been a professional boxer since 2006, when Martin was just seven years old.
Diale also fought for the World Boxing Council Youth minimum title but was defeated by a Thai opponent in 2008 and the WBC Youth world flyweight belt, which ended in a draw.
Martin’s camp remains undaunted with the background of Diale, as the rising Cordilleran boxer has also fought veteran boxers in the past.
Martin possesses a knockout power with 14 of his 15 wins came by way of knockouts.
Since the start of the year, Martin has been cross-training in various gyms in Metro Manila and in Lagawe, Ifugao.
Recently, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno introduced Martin as a proud son of Manila too having been born in Baseco, Compound, Tondo. – Harley F. Palangchao
