Mayor Benjamin Magalong advised the public to wear their face shields and masks when going out of their homes to fortify their protection against the Covid-19 as the city logged more cases.

“Since face shields are already required in almost all establishments, it is just good practice to always have  them and to wear them properly even when we are outside our homes or buildings,” the mayor said as he tasked the Baguio City Police Office and the Public Order and Safety Division to monitor compliance to the advisory.

“Some may argue that wearing face shields is inconvenient or uncomfortable, but we are after the added layer of protection against the virus which is more important than any discomfort,” he added.

The mayor said people have to take it upon themselves to ensure that they and their families are well protected at all times by adhering to all the established health and safety protocols including the wearing of these protective equipment.

“The virus remains out there and our thrust now is to learn to co-exist with it to go on with our lives under the new normal times,” the mayor said.

The city recorded new highs in new cases in the past week mostly belonging to existing case clusters in households and barangays who are contacts of current cases.

The mayor earlier said the spike in cases was expected with the continuing testing and contact tracing efforts.

He assured that the city’s containment strategies on PDITR ot prevent, detect, isolate, treat, and reintegrate remain in full force to address the expected surge. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
