The Benguet Sports Complex in La Trinidad, Benguet is undergoing further improvement as the planned upgrade of the tartan track is being prepared for implementation next year.

Provincial Sports Coordinator Dean Mark Monang said the Department of Public Works and Highways-Cordillera has already inspected BSC’s sports oval.

“The DPWH came and conducted its survey for preparation and implementation next year,” Monang said.

Benguet legislative caretaker Eric Yap has allocated P165 million for the improvement of the oval field and installation of rubberized tartan track.

The existing grandstand will be demolished to give way for a grander stadium, which is complete with bleachers and additional rooms below it as additional gymnasium for athletes.

The upgrading of the multipurpose gymnasium, particularly the tiling of its walkway, is ongoing.

Monang said Yap has allotted P25M for the flooring, bleachers, and other accessories of the gym.

He said the oval track is open to athletes and residents who want to train and exercise for free. But once the upgrade of the sports complex is finished, the province will collect minimal fees for its maintenance.

“We might pattern it from the fees collected from individuals using the Baguio Athletic Bowl,” he said.

He added the collection of fees for the use of the BSC, along with the multipurpose gymnasium, is also backed by the provincial revenue code. As of the moment, a fee is collected only from those using the gym. – Ofelia C. Empian
