The city government is encouraging more private entities to participate in the city government’s Adopt-a-Park program to encourage vital community involvement in maintaining and developing public parks, center islands, and other green spaces.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the program showcases the effectiveness of government and private sector collaboration in community development.
“By encouraging stakeholders to participate in park maintenance and enhancement, Baguio City ensures the sustainability of its green spaces while fostering community pride and ownership. As more enterprises adopt parks, the city can look forward to a greener, more vibrant future for future generations,” he said.
City Environment and Parks Management OfficeHead Rhenan Diwas said they are diligently promoting the initiative, which enables stakeholders and private enterprises to partner with the city government to enhance the city’s green spaces and create more vibrant and sustainable environments for residents and visitors.
Cepmo Assistant Department Head, Engr. Marivic Empizo said currently, more than 20 parks have now been adopted and numerous private groups have joined the Adopt-a-Park program.
Under the program, the Cepmo, which spearheads the operation and upkeep of all public parks, allows non-government entities to participate in various development activities for designated parks as part of their corporate social responsibility efforts, provided they adhere to the terms and conditions outlined in the agreement.
“By adopting a park, businesses fulfill their social obligations and contribute to enhancing their surrounding areas. This program allows stakeholders to engage in meaningful community projects, fostering a sense of ownership and pride,” she said.
In adopting parks, green islands, or strips, establishments will be asked to enter into a memorandum of agreement stipulating their responsibilities and commitments.
Among their responsibilities are maintaining cleanliness, landscaping, and introducing improvements upon approval by the Cepmo.
