TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Three more centenarians from this province recently received cash grants from the Department of Social Welfare and Development and letters of felicitation from the President.

Ganggang Macad and Andres Wansi, both 101 years old, and Catalina Dauping Gebgeban, 102, each received P100,000.

Wansi and Gebgeban each received an additional P50,000 from the city government.

The granting of a centenarian gift of P100,000 and letter of felicitation from the President of the Philippines to all Filipinos who reach the age of 100, whether residing in the Philippines or abroad,  is provided under the Centenarians Act of 2016.

Some local government units also honor their centenarians by awarding a plaque of recognition and a cash incentive.

The families of Wansi and Gebgeban assured the cash incentives will be used for their patriarchs’ daily needs, medicines, vitamins and food, among others.

Macad said he will use part of his incentive to help send his grandchildren to school.

“I am grateful for the cash incentive since it will contribute a lot for our living,” Macad tearfully said.
