Miss Universe Philippines candidates are expected to visit selected tourism sites in Benguet on Oct. 15 to 16 as part of their promotional shoot featuring the province.

“They will be coming in by batch. The main purpose is to promote the province,” Gov. Melchor Diclas said.

Benguet legislative caretaker Rep. Eric Yap took the initiative to invite the organizer to bring the candidates to help promote the province in preparation for its plan to reopen travel and tourism.

Some of the sites to be visited by the candidates aside from the Capitol are the Strawberry Farm, Mt. Costa, and Benguet State University where they will be presented with a cultural show.

He said the photo and video shoot of the candidates will showcase the respective one town-one products of the 13 municipalities.

Diclas said the candidates will be housed at the Baguio Country Club, which has been coordinated with the concerned offices such as the Philippine National Police for the necessary protocols to be implemented during the visit.

He said the candidates, along with the Miss Universe Philippines personnel, will go through the proper health protocols such as subjecting them to triage in Baguio City prior to visiting the province.

La Trinidad Municipal Tourism Officer Valred Olsim said the National Inter-Agency Task Force has sanctioned the activity.

“We recommended strict health protocols and for them to stick to the itinerary. Interaction with the community is limited to those who will assist them,” Olsim said.

The Miss Universe Philippines pageant will select the country’s representative to the Miss Universe 2020 pageant in a venue to be announced later.

The grand coronation of the Miss Universe Philippines 2020 will be aired on GMA 7 on Oct. 25. – Ofelia C. Empian
