Homegrown elite multi-sport athlete Maynard Pecson topped the standard duathlon category of the recently held TriFactor Singapore 2023 on July 30 by finishing the race in one hour, 56 minutes, and 19 seconds.

The Baguio boy, who edged over 20 other athletes, recorded a time of 38:24 in the 10-kilometer run, and cycled the 36-km. route within 56:25 and ran the remaining five-km. obstacle within 19:42.

“I am happy with the effort I was able to give,” Pecson said, as he thanked his coaches Jet and Lou Ann Ramos and the Triathlon Association of the Philippines for the support and opportunity.  

Pecson was followed by Matt Brittain after barely a minute with a time of 1:57:38 while fellow Filipino John Ciron came in third place at 1:58:45 and another teammate John Chicano in fourth at 2:06:05. 

On the distaff side, Philippine team and reigning Powerman Malaysia champion Merry Jane Trupa took the top spot at 2:28:14.

The 10-person Philippine Triathlon team bagged five gold, two silver, and two bronze medals during the 13th edition of the event that gathered thousands of athletes in Singapore’s East Coast Park, Angasa Green.

Earlier, Pecson ruled the overall TriFactor Philippines run-bike-run in Clark Freeport, Pampanga with a time of 2:13:13 followed by John Patrick Ciron.

Trupa was also the champion in the women’s elite competition finishing the race at 2:39:04.
