With a major upgrade happening at the National Educators Academy of the Philippines-Baguio training center, education officials want the facility to be exclusively used for the training of teachers and school leaders.
Department of Education Usec. Nepomuceno Malaluan said the NEAP-Baguio training center is being rented out by different agencies and organizations outside of DepEd.
The training center was established in 1985 exclusively for the training of public school teachers.
“We are embarking to recover the facility as a modern training facility for NEAP, exclusively for the use of teachers and school leaders,” Malaluan said.
Malaluan said part of the DepEd central office’s recent visit in Baguio City last week is to discuss the redesign of the NEAP training center.
He said the center will be transformed into a modern facility but taking on the design of a traditional Benguet hut.
He said it will have an in-person training center and a theater for blended learning, which will serve as a training area and will hold meetings for DepEd personnel.
He said smaller rooms would also be added along with a cafeteria, library, and a studio for the production of professional programs for teachers, which will be at the heart of Teachers’ Camp.
“This is also to recover the key regional history of the Baguio Teachers’ camp as a facility for professional development of teachers and school leaders,” he said.
DepEd Sec. Leonor Briones said the Cordillera, historically has been regarded for producing academicians, intellectuals, and professionals in various fields. She said that is why the government’s NEAP-Baguio training center was built within the American-established Teachers’ Camp.
Briones said NEAP is an academy within the DepEd that will ensure the continuous upgrade of teachers, school managers and leaders in the country.
Meanwhile, Briones with DepEd officials led the groundbreaking ceremony for the P32 million-worth extension building of the NEAP-Cordillera in Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet on March 22.
The DepEd officials with DepEd-Cordillera Director Estela Cariño also signed the memorandum of agreement for the cooperation of NEAP-Baguio and NEAP-Cordillera for the professional development of teachers and school leaders in the country. – Ofelia C. Empian
