Wanted, again: Baguio residents with valuable contributions in the advancement of their sector or in the development of the city in general.
The Society of Outstanding Citizens of Baguio has started accepting nominees for the annual search for city residents who have done extraordinary deeds that benefited the city.
Councilor Lourdes Tabanda, Socob vice chair, said anybody could be nominated as long as they meet the criteria set in the ordinance that institutionalized the search.
Among other criteria, the Socob is looking for individuals who have been consistently demonstrating good deeds or have initiated programs or projects that have significantly contributed to the welfare, development, growth, and prestige of the city and its residents.
Those who have been hailed for demonstrating positive values or character, such as the city’s taxi drivers who have been consistently giving prestige to Baguio and helping elevate its status as a Character City can also qualify for the search as long as they have initiated other works that have helped improve their sector.
“Those in the transport sector who have initiated projects that benefited their sector may be nominated. For example, if they have initiated the crafting of a code of conduct that was adopted by their sector, that is a factor that can be considered in their nomination,” Tabanda said.
Outstanding citizens, she added, are those who have made it a habit to go beyond the scope of their job or profession and initiate other programs for the benefit of Baguio and/or its people.
The Outstanding Citizen of Baguio is the highest award the city government bestows on individuals who serve as role models through their actions.
The award categories are community service, culture and arts, professional service, and business.
Nomination forms may be obtained from the City Mayor’s Office. The deadline of nomination is June 15. – Jane B. Cadalig
