Filipino female mixed martial arts fighter Jenelyn Olsim will be back inside the ONE Championship circle to face the older Bi Nguyen of the United States.
The Olsim-Ngu-yen atomweight bout is one of the undercards of ONE: Battleground 3rd series set at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Aug. 27.
The 23-year-old Olsim of Bokod, Benguet and Baguio City made her presence felt at Asia’s biggest media sports industry when she submitted Maira Mazar of Brazil via power guillotine in the third round of their bout in March this year.
This time, Olsim who is a seasoned Muaythai athlete, has to prepare hard against the 30-year-old Nguyen who clinched a split decision victory against RituPhogat last May.
Nguyen, who has six wins and six losses as a professional MMA fighter, suffered three consecutive defeats inside the ONE circle, reason why she will do anything to win against Olsim to improve her standing in the division.
Nguyen made her amateur MMA debut in 2014 and went 5-1, even winning a title in Texas-based promotion Legacy FC. She then turned professional in 2016 and made a perfect start by winning her first three bouts.
Olsim, on the other hand, is one of the formidable Muaythai athletes from the Philippines, having won gold medals in several international competitions, such as the 2018 East Asian Muay Thai Championship where she and her brother, Jerry, won a gold medal in their respective divisions.
Olsim was also a gold medalist in the 2017 Muay Thai National Open held in Manila aside from the gold medal she won in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games. – Harley F. Palangchao
