Mixed martial arts fighters currently signed with ONE Championship will reinforce the Philippine Vovinam National Team in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam this month.

Leading the pack is ONE flyweight contender Danny Kingad, who remains in best shape despite losing to former world champion Kairat Akhmetov in December 2021.

At 26 years old, Kingad has 14 wins and three losses in his professional MMA career.

Joining Kingad is 2019 SEA Games kickboxing gold me-dalist Gina Iniong-Araos and 2019 SEA Games Muay Thai silver medalist Jenelyn Olsim, who are active fighters of ONE.

This means that Araos and Olsim will see action in their original sport events and vovinam, which is slated on May 18 to 22.

Vovinam is a Vietnamese martial art that combines wrestling and self-defense techniques. Usually, vovinam has two categories: combat and technique combination.

Completing the vovinam national squad are Carlo Buminaang, Renato Cha, and Zephania Ngaya.

This is also the first time that the Philippines will send a team for vovinam in the Southeast Asian Games. – Harley F. Palangchao
