The Search for Outstanding Volunteers-Regional Search Committee (SOV-RSC) is evaluating the nominees for the search, which is a highlight of the National Volunteer Month every December.
Out of 21 nominees, eight were shortlisted for the youth, adult, non-profit, and corporate categories, who were further evaluated by the search committee.
The regional winners will be recognized during the Regional Development Council meeting in December.
The regional awardees for each category will represent the region in the National Outstanding Volunteer Award.
The search aims to encourage volunteerism among the public, said National Economic and Development Authority-Cordillera Director and SOV-RSC chair Susan Sumbeling.
The SOV is an annual search which aims to identify and recognize outstanding Filipino volunteers and volunteer organizations for their exemplary performance and achievements in empowering communities and promoting volunteerism as a way of life, contributory to nation-building.
It is the strategy of the Philippine Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency to undertake advocacy for the promotion of volunteerism as a tool for development as mandated by Republic Act 9418 or the Volunteer Act of 2007.
National awardees from the Cordillera include Dr. Ryan Guinaran (2005), Philex Mining Corporation (2009), Marcelo Abela (2010), Cristina Aban (2011), Virgilio Bautista, PhD (2015), Engr. Andres Ngao-I (2016), Dr. Robert Tolentino (2016), Dr. Joanne Balderas (2018), and Saint Louis University’s Medical Outreach Missions Foundation, Inc. (2018).
