Joint elements of the Benguet Police Provincial Office (BPPO) and anti-narcotics group destroyed over P2 million worth of marijuana plants in Kibungan early this week.
BPPO Director, Col. Elmer E. Ragay, said joint personnel of Kibungan Municipal Police Station led by Cpt. Douglas Akistoy, Benguet Police Drug Enforcement Unit Cordillera, and the Benguet Police Intelligence Branch destroyed 473 fully grown marijuana plants and dried marijuana leaves at Sitio Moling.
The teams conducted eradication in 11 sites resulting in the discovery of the illegal plants and 23 kilos of dried marijuana leaves worth P2,864,600.
The uprooted illegal plants were burned on site except for a few samples that were submitted to the Regional Crime Laboratory Office-Cordillera for qualitative examination.
No cultivator was arrested during the operations.
Last week, the BPPO and PDEA also destroyed over P3M worth of marijuana plants in Bakun and Kapangan. A composite team destroyed 15,000 fully grown marijuana plants worth P3M discovered in Barangay Beling-Belis in Kapangan and 1,060 fully grown marijuana plants worth P212,000 descovered in Tubongan, Kayapa, Bakun.
Ragay lauded the operating troops for a job well done.
He said the Benguet Police is serious in the campaign against illegal drugs and added the recent operation should serve as a warning to all those who engage in the cultivation of marijuana to stop their illegal activity. – BPPO release
