Horses at the Wright Park will soon be contained in stables once the multi-million structure intended for them is completed.
The city council last week has confirmed the contract for the construction of two multi-purpose buildings at the Wright Park to accommodate the vendors and provide an enclosure for the horses in one of the most frequented places in Baguio.
The contract, signed between Public Works and Highways Sec. Manuel Bonoan and Mayor Benjamin Magalong, covers the construction of a three-story multipurpose hall worth P30 million and a two-story multi-purpose hall worth P50M to be implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways.
City Environment and Parks Management Officer Rhenan Diwas said the construction of the multi-purpose structures is part of the city’s parks rejuvenation program, which was proposed for funding in 2020.
The P30M structure is intended for the stalls selling souvenir items, among other things, at the park; a conference hall for Barangay Lualhati, which has jurisdiction over the Wright Park; an art gallery; a common dining area; and a parking facility.
The two-story structure worth P50M, meanwhile, is intended for stables, a veterinary clinic, shops, and a parking area. A lounge for the horse attendants or pony boys is also provided.
Diwas said the construction of the two multi-purpose structures is funded under the General Appropriations Act through the initiative of Baguio Rep. Mark Go and Magalong.
He said the construction of the structures at Wright Park is funded under the Sustainable Infrastructure Projects Alleviating Gaps, a program for the put up of multi-purpose buildings to support social services, and Basic Infrastructure Program of the DPWH.
Diwas said parks rejuvenation projects are not included in the menu of projects to be funded by the national government through the DPWH
