The daily average of Covid-19 cases went up by three percent from Aug. 8 to 14, the Department of Health reported.

From 3,904 daily cases recorded from Aug. 1 to 7, the number swelled to 4,001 daily last week.

The latest case bulletin showed there were 28,008 new cases and 229 verified deaths in the recent week.

Of the additional deaths, 98 occurred from Aug. 1 to 14.

For the same period, 101 cases were added to the tally of severe and critical infections, which went up to 822 from the previous week’s 772.

Only 28 percent or 719 out of the 2,571 intensive care unit (ICU) beds are in use, while 30.9 percent or 6,781 of 21,968 non-ICU beds are used, according to the DOH.

A total of 72,107,090 or 92.33 percent of the country’s target population (78,100,578) were vaccinated against Covid-19, including 77.96 percent of 8,721,357 senior citizens. As of Aug. 14, a total of 17,015,413 received booster shots out of the fully vaccinated population. – PNA
