Trail runners from the Cordillera and rest of the country might see action in Bontoc, Mountain Province next month.

This, after Philippine Trail Running Association, Inc. (Philtra) vice president Aldean Lim submitted to Bontoc Mayor Jerome Tudlong a proposal to conduct the Philippine Trail Running Championships in the capital town on Feb. 25 to 26.

Lim was accompanied by Roland Wangwang, founder of Tawid Mountain Marathon and a pride of Bontoc.

The proposed event is the final leg of the trail running series held in different parts of the country, including Mount Pulag in Benguet; Timberland Mountain Marathon in Rizal; Spartan Trail Series in Pampanga; as well as trail runs in Visayas and Mindanao.

The event aims to select the country’s representative for international races such as the World Mountain and Trail Running Championship which will be held in Innsbruck, Austria in June 2023.

The event will be organized by the Philtra in partnership with the Bontoc municipal government and Tawid Mountain Marathon.
