Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong has ordered the total lockdown of Barangay Pinget after its officials failed to implement the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) measures despite warnings.
“Matigas talaga ang ulo despite the fact na binigyan ko na ng warning. We sent people there and saw na talagang some residents continue to loiter around and do not adhere to physical distancing,” Magalong said.
He said the constituents showed improvement during their initial visit but they did not sustain it.
The Baguio City Police Office implemented the lockdown at 6:30 p.m. of March 25 where checkpoints in all entry and exit points of the barangay were established. Only critical establishment workers are allowed to leave or get in.
Residents of San Carlos Heights and Quezon Hill were also warned of total lockdown if they continue to defy the community quarantine.
Magalong clarified residents of locked down barangays are allowed to go to the market on their designated schedules.
The mayor again visited problematic barangays on March 26 to ensure anew that residents are complying with the ECQ policy as well as the city’s existing rules on sanitation. – Hanna C. Lacsamana
