Philippine Military Academy first class cadets clinched one gold and four bronze medals in the recent Grand Finals: 2023 Pro-Active Robinsons Mall Tour Arnis Championship in Pasig City.
It was a decent finish for PMA arnisadores as they brought home five medals out of the 10 first class cadets who saw action in the event participated in by top arnisadores from different gyms in the country.
Cadet 1CL Jerika James won gold in the women’s full-contact padded stick in the 60-kilogram of the senior’s division.

Cadet 1CL Charinna Faye Dela Merced bagged a bronze medal in the 55-kg. while Cadet 1CL Camille Joy Poblete added another bronze in the 60-kg.
Cadets 1CL Joven Modestano and Jhonmark Cruz also won one bronze medal apiece in the 55-kg. of the men’s full-contact padded stick seniors category.
The PMA Cadet Corps of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Arnis Corps Squad is under the supervision of Officer-in-Charge Lt/Cdr. Jermaine Dacanay, head instructor Dr. Jayson Vicente, and assistant instructors Pvt. Henry Michael Briones and S/Sgt. Michael Vicente Briones.
The tournament featured anyo (creative forms), full-contact padded stick, and live stick combative events.
The past years saw the exposure of PMA cadets in combative events such as wushu, judo, karatedo, taekwondo, arnis, and jiu jitsu with countless of them winning medals for the premier military institution in Asia. – Harley F. Palangchao
