Sen. Imee Marcos and Philippine National Police Director Gen. Rodolfo Azurin, Jr. will be the guests of honor during the 122nd Benguet Foundation Day on Nov. 23.
Gov. Melchor Diclas said both officials have confirmed to attend the main event of the province’s month-long celebration themed “Adivay: A peoples’ festival of culture, nature, and the future.”
Diclas said Marcos has been a steady supporter of the province and there were previous requests from the province, which she helped facilitate.
Marcos, the older sister of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., will be the main speaker.
During the program, the province will honor Azurin with a special leadership award being a proud son of the province.
Azurin and his siblings were raised and educated in La Trinidad.
He served as director of the Benguet Police Provincial Office during the term of then Gov. Nestor Fongwan, Sr.
The usual flair of the anniversary festivities will be observed where the 13 towns will again converge at the Benguet Sports Complex.
The tents of the 13 towns, including one tent for the province, will be set up at the horseback riding area adjacent to the oval.
The site is being prepared as a venue for the tents to preserve the newly paved tartan track at the oval, which will not be used during the celebration.
The main program will be held at BSC gymnasium.
Also, the widely entertaining depap or traditional hunting of pigs will be observed where around 26 pigs plus a cow would be butchered during the festivity.
“In our foundation celebration, we will celebrate where we came from and reflect on things that need to be improved in our province, to look forward to the future,” Diclas said.
A parade of the various sectors from the Capitol to the Benguet Sports Complex gym and the grand cañao at the field will be on Nov. 23, which is the main event of the first in-person celebration of the Adivay Festival after two years. – Ofelia C. Empian
