The public consultation on Session Road and Carantes-Perfecto St. improvement projects will push through on May 4, 9 a.m. to noon at the Baguio Convention Center.

The forum aims to present the project to more sectors and gather additional inputs for its improvement.

The project had earlier been subjected to consultations with specific sectors while the mock-up plan was posted in social media to get the public pulse and gather suggestions to guide the planners and project implementers.

As later determined, there is a need for more public involvement on the project and city officials concerned decided to conduct another consultation in keeping with their promise to continually consider recommendations from the public.

The forum will be done both via face-to-face and Zoom meeting (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86920580080… Meeting ID: 869 2058 0080 Passcode: CPDO).

The City Engineering Office suspended the issuance of the notice to proceed to the contractor of the P20 million Session Road sidewalk improvement project to await the outcome of the scheduled consultation.

City Engineer Edgar Victorio Olpindo said the project was already bided out by the city’s Bids and Awards Committee last March 22 or a few days before the start of the election ban on the implementation of projects and that the contractor was simply awaiting the issuance of the notice to proceed for the said project.

However, the BAC decided to suspend the issuance of the notice to the contractor on April 6 to pave the way for the requested conduct of consultations on what the people of Baguio want on how to undertake the said endeavor.

Olpindo said the suggestions and re-commendations of the public during the scheduled consultation will be considered by the city government, which is why there might be a change order to be introduced on the project but the same will be based on the amount that was the result of the bidding.

He said the output of the consultation will be considered by the CEO in the possible revision of the design of the sidewalk improvement project along the city’s main road.

He added the project is just the initial phase of the Session Road sidewalk improvement program as the city government will work out the allocation of another P40 million to be implemented on the left side of the road going up to pedestrianize the city’s main thoroughfare.

Olpindo said the CEO is willing to listen to the plight of the public on the project for the possible improvement of its design to address the issues and concerns raised when the earlier project design was posted in the social media. – PIO release
