The pair of Cordilleran golfer Douglas Puckett and Soc Suayan won for them the second runner-up plum in the class A division of the Luzon leg of the 17th Sta. Lucia Golf Tour 2023 held at Orchard and Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Clubs on Oct. 5 to 6.

Representing Pinewoods Golf and Country Club (PGCC) in Baguio, Puckett and Suayan scored a gross of 72 on the first day of the tournament and placed 13th among 20 teams in class A.

The pair of Sonny Liwan and Michael Atolba, who also represented PGCC, had the best scramble score among the Cordilleran golfers with 69 for seventh place while the tandem of Bernard Capuyan and Warren Dagupon had 71 for 12th place.

The pair of two other Cordilleran players, Jeremiah Guanso and Henry Rosito, had 73 for 14th place.

Suayan and Puckett, who belong to the Pines Kumpadres Golf Club, Inc. (PKGCI), had an incredible run in the second day of the tournament with 63 in the four-ball format to nail the best score for the day and for a total net score of 135.

Their four-ball score was one point better than the pair of Jonar Ravinar Austria and Don Jerome Empania, who were the class A champions after scoring 67 in the scramble and 64 in the four-ball for a total net score of 131.

The pair of Gi Choon Roh and Kyung Young Jung was the first runner-up with a total net score of 134.

Liwan and Atolba were in sixth place with a net score of 139.

The Lakewood Golf and Country Club based in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija is the Club of the Year winner in this year’s Sta. Lucia Golf Tour after the 36-hole competitions.

The annual golf tour is a competition of players representing the 11 golf courses of Sta. Lucia Golf Club from Luzon to Mindanao. – Harley F. Palangchao
