LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Cordillera Regional Project Monitoring Committee (RPMC)-Project Inspectorate Team with the Benguet Provincial Project Monitoring Team inspected various infrastructure projects in the province recently.

The team inspected projects which have been flagged as delayed under the RPMC Alert Mechanism.

The team also validated projects that have been reported as “complete”.

Among the pro-jects inspected were the damaged areas of the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction of the slope protection in Kennon Road at Camp 6, Tuba and the Ubu-ngan-Cayapas-Ba-lintag-Decan Road in Baculongan Sur in Buguias, which are implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways-Cordillera.

The projects visited, which are  implemented by the DPWH Benguet Second District Engineering Office include the construction of the one-story, two-classroom school building of the Ciriaco Magno Elementary School in Tublay; the Gakian Bridge along the Gov. Bado Dangwa National Road in Gambang, Bakun; the Multi-purpose Building in Barangay Sa-pid, Mankayan;  road in Sitio Camanpaguey, Barangay Cabiten, Mankayan; the Congressman Andres Acop Cosalan Road along Buguias-Kabayan and Buyacaoan Water Supply project in Buyacaoan, Buguias.

Other projects monitored are the construction of the College of Nursing building of the Benguet State University in La Trinidad implemented by BSU, and the construction of the isolation facility of the Northern Benguet District Hospital implemented by the provincial government. 

Prior to the inspection, the RPMC led by  NEDA Regional Director Susan Sumbeling paid courtesy call to the provincial government  to present to the governor and the other officials the targeted projects that would be inspected and the initial issues and concerns regarding the projects.

 The team also paid courtesy call to the officials of Tublay, Buguias and Mankayan where projects for inspection are located.

Sumbeling said the project inspection aims to validate the accomplishment of the projects that have been identified in the 2023 First Quarter Regional Project Monitoring and Evaluation System report. The team would  determine the issues and concerns encountered by the project implementers and recommend actions to bring delayed projects back on track.

During the problem solving session after the inspection held at the Buguias Municipal Hall, Sumbeling appealed to the project implementers to complete their projects based on design and according to the program of work. She also called on the stakeholders to monitor the projects and ensure that the construction process is being done properly and according to standards.

Joining the inspections were Presidential Management Staff team leader Jonathan Ligligen, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency-Cordillera Director Camilo Balutan, private sector representative Julie Cabato and representatives from RPMC member agencies such as the Department of the Interior and Local Government and Philippine Information Agency. – Redjie Melvic Cawis
