MAYOYAO, Ifugao – The muncipal government here continues to provide learning support to the Department of Education-Mayoyao District in the conduct of the Remedial Reading Program in response to the report that many school children are having difficulty in reading and pronouncing words correctly.

Mayor Jimmy Padchanan, Jr. approved the DepEd’s proposal on reading remedial classes for grades 1 to 6 learners in all public schools in the municipality.

The DepEd-Mayoyao District launched the conduct of Reading Remediation for Learners under the Frustration Level and Non-readers in all public elementary schools in Mayoyao last November 2022.

Selected learners under the program attended the remedial classes every Saturday for two hours for 10 days trial period to assess the effectiveness of the said program.

A total of P133,924.51 from the Special Education Fund of the municipality was used for the honorarium of tutors and teachers and for the purchase of snacks for learners attending the reading program.

An additional P50,000 was also allotted to aid the DepEd in the implementation of the program.

During the first Local School Board meeting for this year, the DepEd presented a progress report indicating the program improved the reading ability of the identified learner-participants.

With this positive development in bridging the learning gaps among schoolchildren, the Mayoyao LGU is providing continuous learning support to learners to address learning deficiencies and achieve competencies not only in reading but in all core academic skills.

Padchanan assured he would sacrifice the meager fund of the LGU for the education of the children.  – Florida B. Robles
