A resident of Loakan Proper barangay is facing charges for openly burning waste.

The Baguio City Police Office Loakan Station 4 and Loakan Proper barangay officials jointly filed on July 12 a case for violation of Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, which prohibits the open burning of leaves and waste materials, against a lady resident of Purok Magsaysay in the said barangay.

Personnel of Loakan Police Station represented by Cpl. Simon Calde Jr. and Patrolman Dexter Bagano and barangay officials represented by Kagawad Virgilio Bautista and Administrative Aide Ronilo Tangub also filed an unjust vexation charge against the resident for hurling invectives against the persons in authority.

BCPO Director Col. Francisco Bulwayan Jr. submitted to Mayor Benjamin Magalong the report of Loakan Police Station 4 Commander Maj. Rolie Minas on the incident.

According to the report, the station received on July 12 at around 11:30 a.m. a phoned-in complaint against the lady resident who was causing the burning of waste materials in her residence.

“Upon verification conducted by responding personnel of BCPO Station 4, it was confirmed that the (respondent) was directing three individuals in burning the said waste materials.  Responding personnel together with Kagawad Virgilio Bautista tried their best to negotiate with her for the violation as provided by RA 9003. However, their joint efforts were to no avail,” the report said.

“Further, their efforts to negotiate with (respondent) were not appreciated and they received unpleasant or unsavory words from her,” it added.

The case was filed before the City Prosecutor’s Office on July 14 subscribed by Assistant City Prosecutor Edwin Brian Sagsago. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
