The City Social Welfare and Development Office is awaiting the guidelines to implement Republic Act 11983 which grants P10,000 cash gift for Filipinos when they turn 80, 85, 90, and 95 years old.
The CSWDO advised octogenarians and nonagenarians in the city who stand to benefit from the law to wait for further advice on to how they can avail of the incentive.
CSWDO Officer Liza Bulayungan said as per advice from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the law has just been approved and would need implementing rules and regulations before it can be implemented.
She said currently, the city has a total of 1,077 potential beneficiaries of the law. She added there are 848 citizens aged 80 to 89 years old and 229 residents aged 90 to 99 years old.
RA 11983 or an “An Act Granting Benefits to Filipino Octogenarians and Nonagenarians” was approved by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. last Feb. 26.
The law expands the coverage of RA 10868, or the Centenarians Act, which provides P100,000 for Filipinos who reach the age of 100 years old. It also creates an Elderly Data Management System.
In an advisory, the DSWD said that currently, the Centenarian Act or the provision of cash gift to eligible 100 years old elderly is being implemented in its regional offices. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
